On a rain-soaked Sunday morning, as gentle yet persistent drops descended upon the sacred grounds of the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, the faithful arrived - not discouraged, but deeply resolved. Hundreds made their pilgrimage through the rain to St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Memorial Church, a memorial dedicated to the innocent victims of the Holodomor - the artificially created famine of 1932-1933. Their presence itself became a testimony: that neither weather nor the burdens of life can silence the proclamation of the Resurrection.

This sacred weekend of St. Thomas Sunday - known in the Slavic/Ukrainian tradition also as Provody is not merely a remembrance of the Apostle Thomas’ encounter with the Risen Lord, but a living bridge between the Resurrection and the memory of those who have fallen asleep in the Lord. It is a day when faith embraces both the living and the departed, proclaiming to all: “Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!”

As the bells of St. Andrew’s pealed through the misty air, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony and His Grace Archbishop Daniel were solemnly welcomed into the holy temple. In a deeply moving expression of Orthodox Christian tradition, children of the parish - representing the First Holy Confession Class of 2026 - greeted the hierarchs with flowers, their youthful joy reflecting the beauty of new life in Christ.

At the entrance, the parish elder, Mr. Roman Parobchak, presented the hierarchs with bread and salt - a cherished and ancient Ukrainian Orthodox tradition. Bread, the symbol of life and sustenance, and salt, the sign of preservation and incorruptibility, together express a profound theological truth: that the life offered in Christ is both sustaining and eternal. This act of welcome is not mere custom - it is a sacramental gesture of hospitality, echoing the words of Scripture: “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). It is the offering of one’s very life, that it may be blessed and shared in Christ.

Very Rev. Fr. Vasyl Pasakas, pastor of St. Andrew Memorial Church, together with the clergy, warmly received the hierarchs, humbly asking for their archpastoral prayers and spiritual leadership as the Church continues to rejoice in the unending light of Pascha - the Feast of Feasts.

Responding with gratitude and fatherly love, Metropolitan Antony and Archbishop Daniel bestowed blessings upon the children, the parish leadership, and all the faithful gathered. Their words affirmed the unity of the Church and the shared journey of faith that binds clergy and laity alike in the Risen Christ.

The Divine Liturgy commenced with solemn beauty. During the hierarchical vesting, Archbishop Daniel was prayerfully vested by clergy and seminarians of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary - each vestment a visible sign of the grace bestowed through apostolic succession. The liturgical responses were prayerfully chanted under the direction of Dr. Michael Andrec, while the Gospel was proclaimed with reverence by the deacons, calling the faithful to hear anew the sacred account of the Apostle Thomas.

In his homily, Archbishop Daniel spoke with depth and spiritual clarity about the mystery of doubt and faith: “The wounds of Christ were not erased by the Resurrection - they were transfigured. And so it is with us. The scars we carry, the doubts we endure, are not signs of weakness, but invitations to encounter the living God. Thomas doubted - but he also sought. And because he sought, he found. The question is not whether we struggle with doubt, but what we do with it.”

He continued: “Doubt can become the doorway to deeper faith when it leads us to Christ. But if left unattended, it can distance us from Him. Therefore, we are called not merely to question - but to seek, to touch, to proclaim, as Thomas did: ‘My Lord and my God!’”

Drawing upon the rich traditions of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Daniel reflected on the sacred practice of gathering in cemeteries during this Paschal season: “Today, we go to the resting places of our loved ones not in sorrow, but in victory. We do not whisper grief - we proclaim Resurrection. We stand before the graves and cry out: ‘Christ is Risen!’ - for death has no dominion. In this sacred exchange between heaven and earth, the Church becomes whole.”

As the Liturgy concluded, hundreds of faithful approached the Holy Eucharist - the true Body and Blood of Christ - receiving not only forgiveness and sanctification, but the very life of the Risen Lord.

Due to the rain, the memorial service was prayerfully served inside the temple. Names were lifted before God: the hierarchs and clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, the victims of the Holodomor, the tragedy of Chornobyl, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. With particular solemnity, prayers were offered for the men and women of the Ukrainian American Veterans - those who faithfully served the United States of America, which celebrates its 250th anniversary this year. Their sacrifice was honored as a reflection of Christ-like love: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13).

At the conclusion of the service, Archbishop Daniel greeted those celebrating birthdays, offering heartfelt blessings. Among them were devoted members of the parish community, whose lives of faith continue to strengthen the Church.

Antidorion - he blessed bread distributed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy - was offered to the faithful, reminding all that even those who do not receive the Eucharist are embraced by the love and blessing of the Church. It is a sign that no one departs empty, for the grace of God is abundantly given.

Despite the rain, a procession was formed. Led by Archbishop Daniel, clergy, seminarians, and faithful walked prayerfully to the Ukrainian American Veterans Memorial. There, beneath umbrellas and gray skies, the Paschal hymns resounded with unwavering conviction: “Christ is Risen from the dead, trampling down death by death…”

The rain itself seemed to become a symbol - not of sorrow, but of cleansing, of renewal, of God’s grace descending upon His people.

The faithful then gathered in the warmth of the Ukrainian Cultural Center, where traditional foods were shared - a continuation of Eucharistic fellowship in daily life. Tables filled with varenyky, borscht, and other cherished dishes became places of encounter, joy, and community.

An exhibition of Ukrainian art and crafts further enriched the celebration, revealing the enduring beauty of a culture shaped by faith, suffering, and resurrection. Each embroidered cloth, each icon, each handcrafted piece testified to a people who, despite trials, continue to create, to believe, and to hope.

As the day drew to a close, hearts remained full - not because the rain ceased, but because grace abounded.

In the spirit of St. Thomas Sunday, the faithful departed not merely having witnessed the Resurrection - but having encountered it.

For in every doubt - Christ is present. In every scar - Christ is glorified.

And in every faithful heart - Christ is risen. Indeed He is risen!

У дощовий недільний ранок, коли тихий, але невпинний дощ огортав святі простори Духовного осередку Української Православної Церкви Сполучених Штатів Америки в Саут-Баунд-Бруку, штат Нью-Джерзі, вірні прибували - не знеохочені, але духовно укріплені. Сотні прочан прийшли крізь дощ до Української Православної Церкви-пам’ятника св. Андрія Первозванного - святині, присвяченої невинним жертвам Голодомору 1932-1933 років. Їхня присутність стала живим свідченням того, що ні негода, ні випробування життя не можуть заглушити проголошення Воскресіння.

Ці священні дні Фоминої неділі - відомі у слов’янській традиції також як Проводи є не лише спомином зустрічі апостола Фоми з Воскреслим Господом, але й живим мостом між Воскресінням і пам’яттю про тих, хто відійшов у Господі. Це день, коли віра об’єднує живих і померлих, проголошуючи: «Христос Воскрес! Воістину Воскрес!»

Як дзвони храму лунали крізь дощову імлу, Його Високопреосвященство Митрополит Антоній та Архієпископ Даниїл були урочисто зустрінуті у храмі. У глибоко зворушливому вияві православної традиції діти парафії - представники класу першої Святої Сповіді 2026 року - зустріли архієреїв із квітами, їхня радість віддзеркалювала красу нового життя у Христі.

При вході староста парафії п. Роман Паробчак підніс архієреям хліб і сіль - давній і священний символ слов’янської гостинності. Хліб, як знак життя і поживи, та сіль, як символ збереження і нетління, разом виражають глибоку духовну істину: життя у Христі є животворним і вічним. Цей жест є не просто традицією, а духовною жертвою гостинності, що відлунює слова Псалмоспівця: «Скуштуйте і побачите, що благий Господь»(Пс. 33:9).

Протоієрей Василь Пасакас, настоятель храму, разом із духовенством щиро привітав архієреїв, просячи їхніх архіпастирських молитов і духовного проводу для громади, яка продовжує жити у світлі Пасхи - Свята над святами.

У відповідь Митрополит Антоній та Архієпископ Даниїл благословили дітей, парафіяльну громаду та всіх присутніх, підкреслюючи єдність Церкви та спільне покликання до служіння Воскреслому Христу.

Божественна Літургія розпочалася у величній духовній атмосфері. Під час архієрейського облачення Архієпископ Даниїл був урочисто облачений духовенством та семінаристами Свято-Софійської Української Православної Богословської Семінарії. Хорові відповіді пролунали під керівництвом д-ра Михайла Андреця, а Євангеліє було благоговійно проголошене дияконами.

У своїй проповіді Архієпископ Даниїл глибоко розкрив духовний зміст сумніву і віри: «Рани Христа не зникли у Воскресінні - вони були прославлені. Так само і наші рани та сумніви можуть стати місцем зустрічі з живим Богом. Фома сумнівався - але він шукав. І тому знайшов. Питання не в тому, чи маємо сумніви, а в тому, що ми з ними робимо».

Він продовжив: «Сумнів може стати дверима до глибшої віри, якщо він веде нас до Христа. Але якщо залишити його без відповіді, він може віддалити нас від Нього. Тому ми покликані не лише ставити запитання, але й шукати, торкатися і проголошувати разом із Фомою: “Господь мій і Бог мій!”»

Звертаючись до української традиції, Архієпископ підкреслив значення відвідин кладовищ у пасхальний період:«Сьогодні ми йдемо до могил наших близьких не зі смутком, а з перемогою. Ми не шепочемо скорботу - ми голосно звіщаємо Воскресіння. Стоячи перед могилами, ми проголошуємо: “Христос Воскрес!” - бо смерть втратила свою владу».

Після завершення Літургії сотні вірних приступили до Святого Причастя, приймаючи Живого Христа - Джерело вічного життя.

Через дощ панахиду було звершено всередині храму. У молитві були згадані архієреї та духовенство Української Православної Церкви США, жертви Голодомору, Чорнобильської катастрофи та сучасної війни в Україні. Особливі молитви були піднесені за українсько-американських ветеранів - тих, хто віддав своє життя у служінні Сполученим Штатам Америки, що цього року відзначають 250-річчя.

Після богослужіння Архієпископ Даниїл привітав іменинників, благословивши їх на многії літа. Було роздано антидор - благословенний хліб, як знак любові та єдності Церкви.

Незважаючи на дощ, відбулася процесія до пам’ятника Українсько-американським ветеранам. Під дощем, але з непохитною вірою, вірні співали: «Христос воскрес із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав…»

Дощ став символом очищення і благодаті Божої, що сходить на Його народ.

Після цього вірні зібралися в Українському культурному центрі, де були запропоновані традиційні страви української кухні. Спільна трапеза стала продовженням євхаристійної радості у щоденному житті.

Виставка українського мистецтва і ремесел відкрила глибину духовної культури народу, що, незважаючи на випробування, продовжує творити, вірити і надіятися.

На завершення цього благословенного дня серця були наповнені радістю - бо навіть серед дощу діяла благодать Божа.

Бо у кожному сумніві - присутній Христос. У кожній рані - прославляється Христос.

І в кожному вірному серці - Христос воскрес! Воістину воскрес!
