In the bright light of the Paschal season, when the Church continues to proclaim the victory of life over death, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel journeyed from the Spiritual heart of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America in South Bound Brook, New Jersey, to Saint Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Parish in Atlanta, Georgia. Accompanied by Deacon Andrii Akulenko and Subdeacon Yurii Izhyk of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, the Archpastor came not simply to visit, but to share in the living faith of the people of God - uniting prayer, memory, and hope on the sacred Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, while also commemorating the 40th anniversary of the tragic Chornobyl nuclear disaster.

Upon arrival in Atlanta, Archbishop Daniel was warmly received by the pastor of the parish, Rev. Fr. Bohdan Maruschak, together with Very Rev. Fr. Mykola Hutsul and the clergy of the parish community. On Saturday evening, the faithful gathered in the quiet beauty of the temple for the celebration of Great Vespers. There, beneath the gentle glow of candlelight and the echo of ancient hymns, the Archpastor entered into prayer with the people, offering words of encouragement and listening attentively to the spiritual and pastoral life of the parish family. The evening unfolded not only as a liturgical gathering but as a sacred encounter - an opportunity to reflect upon the life of the parish, the mission of the Church in America, and the calling of the Ukrainian Orthodox faithful to remain steadfast witnesses of Christ in a changing world.

The following morning dawned with Paschal joy. As Archbishop Daniel approached the temple, he was met by the children of the parish, who lovingly scattered flower petals along his path - a sign of reverence, purity, and the blossoming of faith in the hearts of the young. Processions of banners and the Holy Cross led the way, proclaiming visibly what the Church eternally confesses: that Christ is risen and His truth leads His people forward. Representatives of the parish Sisterhood greeted the Archpastor with bread and salt placed upon a beautifully embroidered Ukrainian towel. This sacred cloth, woven with intricate patterns and vibrant colors, bore within it the story of a people - symbols of life, sacrifice, continuity, and resurrection. The white linen proclaimed purity and the new life granted through the Resurrection, while the red threads spoke of love, suffering, and the enduring strength of faith through trials. In this simple yet profound gesture, the fullness of Ukrainian spiritual identity was revealed: hospitality rooted in Christ, memory sanctified by sacrifice, and hope embroidered into every generation.

Children of the parish then recited poetry, their voices carrying both innocence and conviction, reminding all present that faith is not only preserved - it is lived, spoken, and handed forward. The president of the parish board Ruslan Semchyshyn, drawing inspiration from the words of the Holy Prophet Daniel, welcomed the Archbishop with a heartfelt reflection: “Blessed is the God Who reveals mysteries and grants wisdom to His servants. Today, Your Eminence, you come among us not only as a shepherd, but as a bearer of that divine wisdom, to guide, to strengthen, and to remind us that in all trials, the Lord remains faithful.” Fr. Bohdan Maruschak expressed deep gratitude, asking the Archpastor to lead the community in prayer and to offer his blessing upon the faithful entrusted to his pastoral care.

During the Divine Liturgy, celebrated in the joy of the Resurrection, Archbishop Daniel, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, bestowed upon Fr. Bohdan Maruschak the Jeweled Pectoral Cross in recognition of 28 years of faithful, sacrificial service to the Church. This moment of honor reflected not only personal dedication but the very essence of priestly ministry. “The priest,” Archbishop Daniel noted, “is called not to stand above his people, but to stand among them - bearing their joys, carrying their sorrows, and offering all to Christ. Faithful service, offered in humility, becomes a living Gospel.”

It was a moment filled with profound gratitude - a visible affirmation that faithful ministry, offered in humility and love, becomes a living icon of Christ’s presence among His people. Axios! He is truly worthy!

Following the proclamation of the Holy Gospel, Archbishop Daniel offered a sermon centered on a single, powerful word: bravery.

“The Myrrh-Bearing Women,” he reflected, “did not come to the tomb with certainty - they came with love. They did not come knowing what they would find - they came because their hearts would not allow them to abandon Christ. This is bravery: not the absence of fear, but the triumph of love over fear.”

He continued, deepening the reflection: “The Church calls us today to recognize that bravery is not loud - it is often quiet, hidden, and sacrificial. It is the bravery of a mother who prays through the night, the bravery of a father who sacrifices for his family, the bravery of a soldier who stands in defense of truth, and the bravery of those who serve in moments when others turn away.”

He continued, weaving together the witness of the Myrrh-Bearing Women, the courage of the saints, and the resilience of the Ukrainian people in times of war and suffering. “We see this same bravery,” he proclaimed, “in the men and women who defend their homeland, in those who serve the wounded, and in those who, 40 years ago at Chornobyl, ran toward danger so that others might live. Their sacrifice echoes the Gospel itself: ‘Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.’”

Turning to the solemn commemoration of Chornobyl Nuclear Tragedy, Archbishop Daniel’s words took on a tone of sacred remembrance and theological depth: “Chornobyl stands before us as both tragedy and testimony. It reminds us that the knowledge entrusted to humanity is not neutral - it must be guided by wisdom, humility, and responsibility before God. When humanity forgets this, creation itself bears the wounds. Yet even in that darkness, there was light - the light of sacrifice, the light of those who entered into danger so that others might live.”

He continued with profound spiritual insight: “The rescuers of Chornobyl, the firefighters, the workers, the countless unnamed souls - they lived the Gospel without perhaps even realizing it. They fulfilled the words of Christ: ‘Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.’ In their sacrifice, we see not only human courage - we see the reflection of the Cross.”

And then, with a deeply pastoral voice, he added: “We must remember Chornobyl not only with sorrow, but with repentance and responsibility. The world entrusted to us is God’s creation. From the Garden of Eden to the garden of Gethsemane, humanity has been called to choose between obedience and self-will. CHORNOBYL reminds us that our choices have consequences - but the Resurrection reminds us that even from the ashes of tragedy, God can bring forth life.”

A memorial service was prayerfully offered for all those who perished as a result of the Chernobyl disaster. In the stillness of that prayer, the Church embraced the suffering of the past, lifting it into the light of the Resurrection. “We do not remember the departed as those lost to history,” Archbishop Daniel reminded the faithful, “but as those alive in God. For in Christ, even death is not an end - it is a passage into eternity.”

As the Divine Liturgy continued, numerous faithful approached the Holy Chalice to receive the Body and Blood of our Lord, uniting themselves to Christ and to one another. It was a moment of profound communion - heaven and earth meeting in the hearts of the faithful.

Concelebrating with Archbishop Daniel were Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan Maruschak, Protopresbyter Yurii Siwko, Very Rev. Fr. Mykola Hutsul, and Deacon Andrii Akulenko, whose service reflected the unity of clergy and faithful in offering glory to God.

Following the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, members of the parochial Brotherhood and the Parish Board of Administration approached the Archpastor and presented him with a beautifully crafted rendition of the coat of arms of the 9th Brigade of Ukraine, intricately made of amber, as a profound symbol of gratitude from the men and women of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the Church’s steadfast humanitarian aid; additionally, His Eminence was gifted the flag of the 80th Airborne Brigade bearing the inscription “Who, if not us,” expressing the heartfelt appreciation of the unit for the faithful of the parish and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA for their prayers and unwavering support during this time of war, to which Archbishop Daniel, reflecting upon his own years of military chaplaincy, responded: “Having once stood among those who wear the uniform in defense of others, I receive this sacred symbol not as a personal honor, but as a testament to the living bond between the Church and those who sacrifice for truth and freedom; this flag and this emblem are not merely gifts - they are a call to continue our prayer and service, until the day when the peace of Christ reigns once more in the land of Ukraine.”

Following the service, a joyful gathering took place in the parish hall, lovingly prepared by the Sisterhood in honor of their Archpastor and clergy. Around the table, fellowship blossomed, stories were shared, and the unity of the Church was once again made visible - not only in prayer, but in the simple, sacred act of being together.

This archpastoral visit to Saint Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Parish in Atlanta became more than a moment in time - it became a living testimony of the Church’s mission: to remember, to honor, to heal, and to proclaim. In the witness of the Myrrh-Bearing Women, in the memory of Chernobyl, and in the life of the faithful gathered in prayer, the truth resounded clearly and powerfully: Christ is Risen - and in Him, life, courage, and hope shall never be overcome.

У світлій радості пасхального періоду, коли Церква продовжує звіщати перемогу життя над смертю, Його Високопреосвященство Архієпископ Даниїл вирушив із духовного осередку Митрополії Української Православної Церкви США в Саут-Баунд-Бруку, штат Нью-Джерзі, до парафії святого апостола Андрія в Атланті, штат Джорджія. У супроводі диякона Андрія Акуленка та іподиякона Юрія Іжика зі Свято-Софійської Української Православної Богословської Семінарії, Архіпастир прибув не просто з візитом, а щоб розділити живу віру народу Божого - єднаючи молитву, пам’ять і надію у святу Неділю Жінок-Мироносиць, а також вшановуючи 40-ті роковини трагічної ЧОРНОБИЛЬСЬКОЇ катастрофи.

Після прибуття до Атланти Архієпископа Даниїла тепло зустріли настоятель парафії о. Богдан Марущак разом із о. Миколою Гуцулом та духовенством громади. У суботу ввечері вірні зібралися в тиші храму на звершення Великої Вечірні. Там, під лагідним сяйвом свічок і звучанням древніх гімнів, Архіпастир молився разом із людьми, звертаючись до них зі словами підбадьорення та уважно вслухаючись у духовне життя парафіяльної родини. Цей вечір став не лише літургійною подією, але й духовною зустріччю - нагодою осмислити життя парафії, місію Церкви в Америці та покликання українських православних вірних залишатися непохитними свідками Христа у мінливому світі.

Наступного ранку розквітла пасхальна радість. Коли Архієпископ Даниїл наближався до храму, його зустріли діти, які з любов’ю встеляли дорогу квітами - знаком пошани, чистоти й розквіту віри в юних серцях. Хресний хід із хоругвами та Святим Хрестом урочисто провадив Архіпастиря, видимо звіщаючи те, що Церква вічно сповідує: Христос воскрес і Його істина веде Свій народ вперед. Представники сестринства привітали Архіпастиря хлібом і сіллю на гарно вишитому українському рушнику. Цей рушник, прикрашений складними орнаментами та яскравими барвами, ніс у собі історію народу - символи життя, жертви, тяглості та воскресіння. Біле полотно проголошувало чистоту й нове життя у Христі, а червоні нитки нагадували про любов, страждання і незламність віри через випробування. У цьому простому, але глибокому жесті відкривалася повнота української духовної ідентичності: гостинність, укорінена у Христі, пам’ять, освячена жертвою, і надія, вплетена у кожне покоління.

Діти парафії декламували вірші, і їхні голоси, сповнені щирості та переконання, нагадували всім присутнім, що віра не лише зберігається - вона живе, промовляє і передається далі. Голова парафіяльної управи Руслан Семчишин, натхненний словами пророка Даниїла, привітав Архієпископа словами: «Благословенний Бог, Який відкриває таємниці і дарує мудрість Своїм слугам. Сьогодні, Ваше Високопреосвященство, Ви приходите до нас не лише як пастир, але як носій цієї Божественної мудрості - щоб наставляти, укріплювати і нагадувати нам, що в усіх випробуваннях Господь залишається вірним». Отець Богдан Марущак висловив щиру вдячність, прохаючи Архіпастиря очолити молитву громади та подати своє благословення вірним.

Під час Божественної Літургії, звершеної в радості Воскресіння, Архієпископ Даниїл, з благословення Митрополита Антонія, нагородив прот. Богдана Марущака наперсним хрестом з прикрасами на знак визнання 28 років жертовного служіння Церкві. «Священник, - зазначив Архієпископ, - покликаний не стояти над людьми, а бути серед них - нести їхні радості, розділяти їхні скорботи і приносити все Христові. Вірне служіння, звершене в смиренні, стає живим Євангелієм».

Після читання Святого Євангелія Архіпастир виголосив проповідь, зосереджену на одному слові: відвага.

«Жінки-Мироносиці, - сказав він, - прийшли до гробу не з певністю - вони прийшли з любов’ю. Вони не знали, що знайдуть, але їхні серця не дозволили їм залишити Христа. Це і є відвага: не відсутність страху, а перемога любові над страхом».

Він продовжив: «Церква сьогодні навчає нас, що відвага не завжди гучна - вона часто тиха, прихована і жертовна. Це відвага матері, яка молиться вночі, відвага батька, який жертвує заради родини, відвага воїна, який захищає правду, і відвага тих, хто служить там, де інші відступають».

Поєднуючи подвиг Мироносиць із сучасністю, Архієпископ наголосив: «Ми бачимо цю відвагу у воїнах, які захищають Батьківщину, у тих, хто доглядає поранених, і в тих, хто 40 років тому в Чорнобилі йшов назустріч небезпеці, щоб інші могли жити. Їхня жертва відлунює словами Євангелія: “Ніхто більшої любові не має, як той, хто душу свою покладає за друзів своїх”».

Звертаючись до трагедії Чорнобиля, Архієпископ сказав: «Чорнобиль стоїть перед нами як трагедія і як свідчення. Він нагадує, що знання, дароване людині, має бути кероване мудрістю, смиренням і відповідальністю перед Богом. Коли людина забуває про це, саме творіння починає страждати. Але навіть у темряві була світло - світло жертви тих, хто йшов у небезпеку заради життя інших».

І додав: «Ми повинні пам’ятати Чорнобиль не лише зі скорботою, але й із покаянням і відповідальністю. Від Едемського саду до Гефсиманського саду людина покликана обирати між послухом і самоволею. ЧОРНОБИЛЬ нагадує нам, що наші рішення мають наслідки - але Воскресіння нагадує, що навіть із попелу трагедії Бог може дарувати життя».

Було звершено панахиду за всіма, хто загинув унаслідок катастрофи. «Ми не згадуємо їх як втрачених, - підкреслив Архієпископ, - але як живих у Бозі, бо в Христі смерть - це не кінець, а перехід у вічність».

Після завершення Божественної Літургії члени братства та парафіяльної управи підійшли до Архіпастиря та вручили йому майстерно виготовлений герб 9-ї десантно-штурмової бригади України з бурштину як знак вдячності від воїнів Збройних Сил України за гуманітарну допомогу Церкви; також Його Високопреосвященству було подаровано прапор 80-ї десантно-штурмової бригади з написом «Хто, як не ми», що виражає щиру вдячність військового підрозділу вірним парафії та Українській Православній Церкві США за молитви і підтримку в час війни, на що Архієпископ Даниїл, згадуючи своє служіння військовим капеланом, відповів: «Колись стоячи поруч із тими, хто носить однострій, захищаючи інших, я приймаю цей священний дар не як особисту відзнаку, а як свідчення живого зв’язку між Церквою і тими, хто жертвує собою заради правди і свободи; цей прапор і цей герб - це не просто дари, це заклик продовжувати нашу молитву і служіння, аж доки мир Христовий знову не запанує на землі України».

Після богослужіння відбулася братня трапеза, підготовлена сестринством, де у теплій атмосфері спілкування ще раз проявилася єдність Церкви - у простій, але священній радості бути разом.

Цей архіпастирський візит став не просто подією, а живим свідченням місії Церкви - пам’ятати, вшановувати, зцілювати і звіщати: Христос Воскрес! Воістину Воскрес!
